Raking

It’s that time of year, where the leaves are changing color and turning our green yards into beautiful beds of yellow, red, orange, and brown. 🍂🍁

Here are some tips on how to remove leaves from your yard in an eco-friendly way:

If you want some exercise, rake those leaves! However, choose eco-friendly bags to put them in. DON’T put leaves that will naturally break down and return to the earth (if given a chance) into a plastic bag that takes years to break down (and release harmful chemicals into the soil and water supply along the way). Opt for paper bags (you can find these at your local hardware/garden stores), biodegradable bags, or reusable garden bags (if your municipality will dump the leaves into the truck and return your bag to you). And, PACK THOSE BAGS! This cuts back on how many bags you actually use and saves you money in the meantime (that’s a win-win!)!

You could always mulch the leaves, running a lawnmower over them and letting the leaves protect your yard. (Or, I guess you could jump in piles of leaves, rolling around to break the leaves down rather than using the mower).

Also, you could compost some of the leaves, being mindful not to overload your compost pile, maintaining the appropriate ratios and aeration.
